Cathedral Series
The cathedral series is a typology of the West Fronts of England’s medieval cathedrals, minsters and abbeys. Traditionally the west front would have formed the main façade and processional entrance to a cathedral, being on a direct axis with the nave and altar.By photographing the churches in a systematic manner the buildings can be recorded objectively and compared and contrasted. They can be read as monuments or relics of a long vanished age of when the church and state were inseparable, which contrasts with the small ephemeral scenes and moments being played out by the people in front of the façades.
